[The video starts on an unsure-looking Kirlia. He starts to edge away, but Dave--apparently behind the camera--speaks.]

[The Kirlia sighs, extremely put upon, and then ballet-toes back into place. There's a Dawn Stone on the floor nearby; the Kirlia bends primly at the waist to pick it up, and:

Wart the Gallade examines his arm-blades for a moment, then shoots Dave a look as if to say, "If we're quite done now." Dave chuckles quietly.]

Yeah, yeah, thanks for humoring me, bro. The moment has been secured for posterity. Duty discharged. [The relief on the Gallade's face is palpable before Dave turns the camera towards his own movie star mug. Hello, Johto.]

So, hey. I get that baby's first evolution is probably ancient headwear for most of you, but he's the first guy I got all the way to his final form. That's worth some kind of jokey home video.

[Yeah, because he's obviously being ironic about this. He's not Proud Dadding all over his starter, no sirree.]

Anyway, I've been hearing about a bunch of different evolutionary paths our Poképals can take, and, I dunno. I'm curious, I guess. If you ever made a choice like that, what made you pick one way or the other?

Uh....we're connected in ways I can't even begin to try and explain.

That spirit, Raava...she and the dark spirit have been in opposition forever. But neither one can win, because the world needs both. But back when humans were still new, and almost nobody could even use bending, the dark spirit tricked the very first bender and became more powerful. So Raava merged her lifeforce with the first bender, to combine their strength to subdue and trap Vaatu again. And ever since then the Avatar has carried Raava through the generations, sharing existence and keeping the balance of the world.

[Super simplified version of what happened, but she doesn't want to bore Dave.]

At least until some really awful stuff went down, but it's fine now and everything's the way it should be.

[More or less. The whole thing's just started over again. She's lost her connection to her past lives, but not to Raava and she'll just be the next Avatar's first past life.]

[Only Korra could manage to be both the umpteenth Avatar and the first.]

Oh, you know Jade? I spoke to her a little bit before.

Mmm. I guess that's true. I wouldn't know from wars, though. Weren't enough people left to start much of one in my interdimensional neck of the woods.

[And another small round of golf-claps from the audience. Penny's got her Eevee snuggled in her arms, the cuteness of which may or may not be ruined by the Galvantula clinging to her back and peeking over her shoulder.]

He looks so regal! I can see why you wanted to capture the moment like that.

And... I don't know. I've been wondering the same thing about Precious.

[She gives the Eevee in question some scratches behind the ear.]

Almost any of his evolved forms would be VERY useful, but I don't want to try making him into something that would make him unhappy... I've tried asking about it, but I don't think he quite understands.

Well...Golett evolve by leveling up, don't they? And from what I have read, it takes a long while for them to get to the level of evolving. Maybe she'll have grown and matured enough in that time to be ready for it.

[It's at level 43 so...it has to be a long time.]

I would imagine as well for Pokemon caught in the wild that they have evolved parents and know what they're in for down the line.

... Wait. Time-travel? You can...

[... You can almost hear Elsa's brain short-circuiting as she tries to understand this.]

How long have you been dealing with these things that you can just... talk about it so casually now?

[Dave turns away from the feed and leans back in his chair, stretching his legs out with a sigh.]

It's like asking kids what they want to be when they grow up, right? Like, they might give you an answer, but who the fuck knows if they really want to be a dinosaur veterinarian astronaut.

[Dave pauses to think about that for a moment. Parents. That's true, isn't it? He always knew what he'd be in for down the line...]

What if they evolve and then change their mind, though? Then it's too late to go back and fix anything.

[He sounds sheepish more than anything else; clearly the teasing doesn't really bother him.]

[Even some of his tend to stay on the quiet side. He can't think of many times his Chandelure's made a sound, for one. Or his Aegislash... or most of his ghost types, actually. Weird.]

If you can read each other, I'd say you're already ahead of the game. Body language's something a lot of people overlook.

I don't know. I've ALWAYS known what I was meant to do and my friend Ruby said she'd almost always wanted to be a Huntress, but maybe that's just another way Remnant is different?

I had a friend who pretty much exclusively communicated through eye contact and gesture, so, like. I dunno, I'm used to it. We always just sort of understood exactly what he was saying even though he never said a word.
