Well, there's like subsets of bending. Some earthebenders can bend metal or lava - I can bend metal, but not lava. And some firebenders can bend lightning.

But it's just the four elements. Those are what keep everything in harmony and balance.

It's a good number, four. Nice, round number. Kind of leaves out a lot of the metaphysical stuff, though.

Uh...I don't know what luck has to do with anything, but waterbending can do all kinds of healing.

Between the four elements, everything's covered. Either literally or symbolically.

Well, no, not totally. I don't see how any of that would cover some of the human Aspects, like Mind.

And definitely none of that addresses Time.

Oh no, it totally covers that kind of stuff. Uh...the spiritual and symbolic side of things was never my strong point, but I think water covers time and air would be mind.

The point's just that for most normal people, being carried along by a flowing river is a really accurate metaphor for time.

Right? And I think a lot of people find it comforting, thinking about it like that. Instead of time being something to fight against, you know?

Not that there's much fighting Time from any perspective, but, you know. Whatever lets people sleep at night without regular existential crises about the inevitability of death and decay.

It's not like it's a bad thing. I mean....it's nature. And it's not like death's really the end. It's just...a really big change.

I think it's worse on the people left behind.
